Footprints Announces Release of Public Beta of FootRunner(tm) v11, 4th Dimension Inline Code Intepreter Plug-In

(Moab, UT, October 3, 2008) Footprints, Inc. today announced it has released for Public Beta testing FootRunner(tm) v11,

the first version of the widely used 4th Dimension(R) inline code interpreter compatible with 4D v11 SQL. The

FootRunner 11 plug-in permits developers of custom 4th Dimension applications to execute text files containing 4D code

from within compiled 4D v11 SQL applications.

According to the company, the latest version of the popular plug-in provides compatibility with 4D v11 SQL and offers a

simplified command set. Although there is no backward compatibility with 4D 2004 or earlier;, Footprints will continue to

offer FootRunner 5 for use with 4D versions 6.0 through 2004. Sample 4D code for converting FootRunner 5 scripts to

FootRunner 11 scripts is provided. A FAQ is included with the release discussing concerns that may stem from upgrading

FootRunner version 5 to FootRunner version 11.

As with FootRunner version 5, FootRunner version 11 will be offered to the 4D developer community free of charge.

FootRunner 11 includes support for local variables, parameter passing (9 maximum) and the ability to execute 4D code

embedded within HTML pages. The FootRunner 11 plug-in package, when installed in a custom 4D v11 SQL database

application, enables programmers to create executable 4th Dimension method files which can be saved to disk (or as

data in the database) and executed later. Once created, these files can be transmitted and executed directly by any other

4th Dimension application containing the FootRunner 11 plug-in. FootRunner 11 is only compatible with 4D v11 SQL

and is available for Mac OS X and Windows; FootRunner 5 remains compatible with all versions of 4th Dimension from

v6.0 up to the latest release of 4D 2004 and is available for Macintosh and Windows.

An updated developer manual describes the new functionality. It includes numerous suggestions and sample code to

whet the developer's appetite for practical use of FootRunner 11, each based on Footprints' own experience in

developing and supporting its clients' custom information systems.
